Hwaseng’s In-Room Water Solutions for 5-Star Hotels: Eco-Friendly & Low-Carbon Options (Purchase or In-House System)

Hwaseng Pioneers Glass Bottled Water as a Carbon-Reduction Solution for Hotels

As the demand for sustainable hospitality grows, Hwaseng is leading the industry with its eco-friendly glass bottled water systems, offering hotels two impactful options:

  1. Purchase reusable glass bottled water (with bottle return and recycling included)

  2. Install an in-house automated bottling system to self-produce drinking water for guest rooms.

By combining glass bottle reuse with low-emission production methods, Hwaseng offers hotels a powerful way to reduce carbon emissions and minimize waste—while maintaining a premium guest experience.

From Bottled Water Supplier to In-House Bottling Innovator

Not only does Hwaseng supply premium glass bottled water, but it also manufactures Taiwan’s first fully automated glass bottled water production line—specially designed for hotels to produce their own in-room water sustainably.

Through both purchasing and in-house production models, Hwaseng supports circular use by collecting and reusing glass bottles, eliminating the need for disposable plastics.

A Landmark Shift in Hospitality—Mandarin Oriental and Legacy Brands Join the Movement

Hwaseng Water Resources, led by Chairman Duan-Yuan Hu, launched Taiwan’s first large-scale glass bottled water business. With a return rate exceeding 90%, the company is redefining industry standards.

Despite costs being 50% higher than PET bottles, Hwaseng invested over NT$20 million into a solution that wasn’t immediately popular—but perfectly aligned with future sustainability goals.

As Taiwan’s Environmental Protection Administration plans to restrict single-use amenities in hotels (effective July 1), forward-thinking properties such as Mandarin Oriental Taipei and Hotel Proverbs are already adopting glass bottled water systems to comply and lead.

Behind the Scenes—A Look at Hwaseng’s Automated Production Line

In Hwaseng’s facility, glass bottles travel along a conveyor belt through a multi-step process:
✔️ Brushing and washing
✔️ Filling with distilled water
✔️ Cap sealing in a sterile room
✔️ Manual inspection before shipping

This system produces up to 2,000 bottles per hour and has helped hotels reduce over 2,000 kilograms of carbon emissions per month—a significant number, given that each avoided PET bottle reduces CO₂ by approximately 100 grams.

National Recognition for Green Innovation

With annual revenues around NT$200 million, Hwaseng is one of Taiwan’s top three water companies and the only one with a fully automated glass bottled water system. In 2022, the company won two prestigious awards at the Yushan National Brand Awards:
🏆 Outstanding Enterprise
🏆 Best Product

Joining the ranks of global leaders such as Pfizer and Dachan Group, Hwaseng is proving that environmental leadership and business success can go hand in hand.

Reusable Glass Bottles Are More Than a Trend—They’re a Competitive Advantage

“Each PET bottle saved equals 100g less carbon. A hotel that uses 20,000 fewer PET bottles per month can cut emissions by 2,000 kilograms,”
says Chairman Hu in an interview with Business Weekly Taiwan.

Hotels seeking ESG credibility, customer loyalty, and regulatory compliance should consider glass bottled water not just as a green upgrade—but as a smart, future-proof investment.
